This photo was taken in the North Fork Big River drainage and shows pampas grass and Ceonothus as well as some small conifers and hardwood species. This area was clear cut and sprayed with herbicides. Ceonothus is a nitrogen fixer and helps rebuild soil nutrients. Photo by Vivian Bolin. Photo taken in 1992.
This photo depicts a 100 foot-long landslide that was initiated by a road failure with delivery of most of its material directly to the North Fork Big River. The slide appears to have delivered woody debris with the two logs at right. The angular material of the stream bed is characteristic of a stream that has recent landslides. Materials eroded from stream banks are rounded, having previously been transported. Photo taken by Vivian Bolin in 1992.
This photo shows a newly installed bridge over the North Fork Big River that replaced a large culvert with fill. The bridge greatly reduces likelihood of crossing failure and attendant sediment delivery. Steelhead were seen spawning in the reach of the stream adjacent. Photo by Vivian Bolin. Taken in 1992.
