| Caption: Steelhead juvenile densities in the reach above and below Grassy Flat Creek were lower than in reaches below Corrall and Miner Creeks(scroll down for a key to habitat type numbers). Most juvenile steelhead in this reach were congregated in high gradient riffles as opposed to runs or pools. It would seem that some reaches in the gorge of Hayfork Creek warm up rapidly in response to ambient air temperature in summer. As the stream temperature rises, juvenile steelhead decrease in density. High densities in the high gradient riffle may be in response to improved dissolved oxygen in these environments that helps offset stress from warm water.
