| Caption: The floating weekly average water temperature of Upper Olson Creek, tributary of Hayfork Creek, is shown above for the years 1991-1992. Water temperatures in Upper Olsen Creek were optimal for salmonids throughout the summer in both years. The maximum weekly average temperature (MWAT) did not exceed the threshold for suitability for coho salmon according to Welsh et al. (2001), although coho never likely accessed this reach because Olson Creek is too steep here. Coots (1952) did document coho in lower Olson Creek. Similar temperature thresholds to the one used above have not been confirmed for coho in the Klamath Basin or for other salmonid species; therefore, the threshold is shown only for reference. Data provided by Shasta Trinity National Forest but was trimmed for outliers by the Forest Science Project (now known as the Institute for Forest and Watershed Management). | |
