Habitat: Habitat Types by Percent Survey Length for Northern Tribs |
|
Caption: The California Department of Fish and Game classifies stream habitat according to three basic types (pools, flatwater, and riffles) and also notes sections of dry channel. The percent stream length composed of pools (blue bar) is an important descriptor of habitat quality for salmonids. According to DFG benchmarks for pool quantity, most tributaries of the Northern Mattole Subbasin provide poor habitat (<25%), and no streams provide good habitat (>50%). The occurrence of dry channel is sensitive to flow conditions during the summer surveys, and may otherwise be represented as riffle habitat. See Info Links for more information.
