Fish: Outmigrant Catch by Species in Lower Mainstem, 1997 |
|
Caption: The Mattole Salmon Group operated a rotary-screw trap with a 5' diameter cone in the lower Mainstem Mattole River (river-mile 2.9, about 0.1 mile upstream from Mill Creek) in the spring and early summer of 1997. Among all fish captured steelhead trout young of the year were most numerous, and far exceeded the number of steelhead trout yearlings captured. Eleven coho smolts were captured. Numbers of fish trapped cannot be construed as a fish population estimate because of unknown trap efficiency and avoidance of the trap by fish at higher flows. See Info Links for more information
